This is a thought I have had more and more frequently.
As I begin to research all things funeral planning, naturally, I start to visualize my own service and what it might look like one day. For as long as I can remember, I pictured myself on display in a glass coffin, just like Sleeping Beauty. Dreamy, right?
My funeral planning research has me questioning this fairy tale funeral, and thinking a little more realistically about the environment and the Earth that my children and their children are going to grow up in.
Did you know that the State of Texas does not require embalming? Yet so many of us automatically say yes to this service because we think we have to. Did you know that you don’t even need to buy a casket for burial? Natural burials can be done using a natural wood or wicker basket and can save big time on funeral expenses. Added bonus, they are more environmentally friendly – keeping mother earth smiling approvingly.
Although I haven’t quite decided what route I’d like to take, I do like the fact that there are more options out there than your standard burial or cremation.
If you’ve started the discussion with your loved ones about how your funeral service should go, make sure you take the time to explore all your options because they are changing all the time. California just passed a law where you can turn your loved ones into soil! Personally, I love this idea, but it’s not for everyone. So if you don’t want to be part of the family garden, make sure you are having these discussions!
I’d love to chat with you about options for your service if you don’t know where to start. You can contact me here:
